This piece is inspired by Marvin Gaye's lyrics from his song "inner city blues." I feel the epidemic of police violence and brutality has only escalated with the militarization of police departments across the country. Although through technology and social media there is a lot more evidence captured of police abusing their power, the lack of accountability they face is appalling. In this piece I used newspaper headlines from a variety of cases of police shooting and killing unarmed citizens. On top of that I have police tape with the words "trigger happy policing." My intention with this piece is to call attention to the lack of progress within the U.S. justice system when it comes to prosecuting police. I am also focusing on how the militarization of the Police in this country has only made these public servants more violent. The gap between the communities and the Police departments that are paid by our tax dollars is only growing larger. I am angered, frustrated and saddened by the lack of understanding and empathy of the police. This poster is an expression of these feelings.
